Another pond cleanup today. A section of Four Mile pond off the TCH near Holyrood Exit. Big thanks to Christopher Doyle of CBS , NL for your support on this one. It was really kind of you to reach out to me and offer up your pile of recyclable beverage containers to cover the expense on this one. I greatly appreciate the support. This pond is healthier thanks you you sir. Stay safe everyone

Another one done on this gorgeous day on the rock! Four mile pond near the TCH at Holyrood exit. This cleanup was possible because of support from NL’s own and very well known, comedian/TV personality, Rick Mercer who cares deeply about his home province, it’s people and the environment here. Hats off to you Rick and big congratulations as well on your upcoming award this fall for the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador. Well deserved indeed and keep doing what you do best buddy! Stay safe everyone:)

Here’s a feel good story for all to read. It’s called “ Pop’s Pond “ A couple days ago we did a cleanup of one section of Four Mile Pond and found some interesting items including some vintage bottles near the TCH on the bottom of this beautiful waterbody. Our FB post got shared to Wanda Murphy-O’Rielly who reached out to us with her nostalgic and touching story. She tells us of how Four Mile Pond is very special to her and her family as her late grandfather, Frank Rickert, who passed away almost 31 years ago had built a cabin near where we had conducted the cleanup. Wanda’s mom, now 78 year old Irene Murphy, was just 8 years old when Frank came home one day and said he had bought this piece of land and was going to build a cabin, and so he did. This little piece of heaven, the cabin, was a place where Wanda and family spent a lot of time over the years berry picking, fishing, hunting, exploring and swimming. “It’s where they all learned how to swim, “she says. She recalls having many jiggs dinners cooked in the water from the pond. Her grandparents had 8 children and 19 grandchildren so you can imagine the feeds, the stories and the fun times there. Even after the fun ended and it was time to pack up and head home they would all take baths in the pond, which was not at all uncommon back in the day. Eventually with the new highway developments the cabin was taken down to make room for the divided highways and ramps. A lot of fond memories in “ Pops pond “ as they would all refer to it. Wanda, who shares the same birthday as her pop which makes it even more special to her , thanked us for our efforts in cleaning everything up from the pond bottom and asked what we were going to do with all the items, as she was interested in just one thing, one item from a time she holds so dear. We never hesitated and were more than happy to make her day when we told her to drop over and pick up a Vintage embossed glass Javex bottle that we pulled off the bottom near to where her pops cabin was built. Quite possible it was once in the hands of her pop, Frank Rickert, so many years ago. May you and your mom, Irene enjoy this treasure for many years to come. Myself ( Lou) and Jay are delighted the vintage bottle found its home on your mantle and you can see it often to reflect and remember the wonderful memories of your childhood at “ Pop’s Pond.”
